MUSIC’S BIGGEST NAMES COME TOGETHER FOR CHEVROLET GiMA VOTING DAY

Goodwill Ambassador Asha Bhosle casts First Vote

Mumbai, 2nd November, 2010: The Chevrolet Global Indian Music Academy (GiMA) kicked off the voting proceeding today to adjudge the winners of the Chevrolet GiMA Awards powered by Lava music phones to be held on the 22nd of September. In its second year, GiMA aims at providing a holistic platform for all musical talent in India in order to encompass all of the diverse genres prevalent in various parts of the country.

Music legend, Asha Bhosle declared voting open, by casting the first vote as the official Goodwill Ambassador for GiMA. Speaking on her role as Goodwill Ambassador, Asha Bhosle said, “GiMA has been a pioneering effort to bring together the entire music industry on a common platform and to honor artists in front of their peers. I am honored to be the Goodwill Ambassador to such a prestigious institution and to be given the privilege of casting the first vote”.

Several illustrious members of the academy also attended the conference to show their support including Pt. Shivkumar Sharma, L Pyarelal, Dr. L Subramaniam, Alka Yagnik, Shankar Mahadevan and Vijay Lazarus.Industry stalwarts, music-directors, producers, technicians and composers, among others will cast votes for their, which will decide the winners for the main awards.

Owing to the success of the inaugural ceremony, GiMA has seen a considerable rise in industry support with over 40 new members being added to the academy over the last year. There has also been a notable increase in the number of entries received with over 40 prominent films submitting entries for the film categories and over 160 albums competing in the non-film categories.

The 2nd edition of the Awards will be presented at an exclusive ceremony on the 22nd of September, 2011 at the picturesque Kingdom of Dreams in Delhi, home to the first ever Bollywood musical, ‘Zangoora’.
