Javed Akhtar

One name that is synonymous with romance, aesthetics and Urdu poetry in contemporary India is that of Javed Akhtar. This multi -talented personality is a renowned poet, lyricist and scriptwriter in the Indian Film Industry. He has  written Urdu poetry aside from writing lyrics for movies. Singers such as Jagjit Singh and the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan have sung some of his non-movie poetry. He has won numerous Awards, including the National Award five times, the “National Integration Award”, 14 Filmfare Awards, the Padma Shri and the Padma Bhushan. He has also done script writing(alonghwith Salim Khan) for some of the best movies of the 70’s and 80’s like Yaadon Ki baarat,Zanjeer,Mr India and Deewar.Some of the movies has written lyrics for are Mr.India,Sailab,Dastak and the recent ones like Om Shanti Om,Rock On,Don 2, etc.He was also elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha in 2010.
